On the morning of 18 April 2023, at the Xinfa Di Wholesale Market in Beijing, JANO held a grand debut ceremony to announce the official sale of Ecuadorian Kirin fruit to the Chinese market as the first importer.
Address by Mr. Carlos Humberto Larrea Dávila, Ambassador of Ecuador to China
Address by Mr. Liu Ziqiu, General Manager of Beijing Xiongliu Jiaonong Food Co.
Mr. Carlos Humberto Larrea Dávila, Ambassador of Ecuador to China, together with his wife and Mr. Andres Armas, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of Ecuador in China, were present at the inauguration ceremony to witness this historic moment together with colleagues from the Chinese fruit industry.
On April 10, 2023, the first batch of Kirin fruit products departing from Ecuador directly to Shanghai, China arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport smoothly, which is the first time for Ecuador to export Kirin fruit to China and the first time for China Customs to import such products. At the same time, this is also an important sign for China and Ecuador to promote bilateral trade since the successful conclusion of the China-Ecuador FTA negotiations on February 26, 2023. Canon, as the first importer, worked very hard to negotiate the final approval of the Ecuadorian unicorn fruit into China.
The unicorn fruit belongs to the cactus family and has a medium yellow appearance. It is a very nutritious fruit containing anthocyanins and plant-based proteins, which are rare in plants, as well as soluble dietary fibre and vitamins. Thanks to China's policy of supporting "quality imports" and expanding consumer demand for healthy fruit, imports of fresh dragon fruit have continued to grow steadily in recent years. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, China imported 587,000 tonnes of fresh dragon fruit in 2021, mainly from Vietnam and Taiwan, and in 2022 the importing region will be expanded to Indonesia, and with the legal entry of Ecuadorian unicorn fruit, Chinese consumers will have more delicious choices.
At present, the total area planted with Ecuadorian unicorn fruit is over 5,000 hectares, of which 3,600 hectares are recorded as eligible for export, of which about 10% will be exported to China for the first time. The Ecuadorian unicorn fruit is generally large in size, with a weight of over 250g per fruit according to Chinese customs import standards. In terms of taste, the sugar content can reach around 20 degrees. We are honoured to have been granted the first batch of import rights by the Chinese Customs, and we are confident that the products imported will be well received by consumers.
As an active promoter and important participant in the first importation of Ecuadorian kirin fruit into the Chinese market, GANO has been working with the Ecuadorian government and local plantations to speed up the process of the product's approval to enter the Chinese market, adhering to the concept of providing quality fruit for Chinese consumers. The successful launch of Ecuadorian Kirin fruit in China marks another milestone in the food and agricultural trade between China and Ecuador under the "One Belt, One Road" initiative.
At the launch site, Ambassador Carlos Larrea also gave an interview to the media, saying that the Ecuadorian unicorn fruit has a unique tropical flavour and sweet taste due to its special geographical environment. In addition, Ecuador also produces organic bananas, avocados, quinoa and other high quality agricultural products, and in the export of organic bananas, Ecuador has always maintained a deep strategic partnership with GANO. In the future, we also hope to cooperate with GANO more and more to introduce more and more Ecuadorian products to the Chinese market with GANO's accurate market judgment experience and strong channel expansion ability.
It is reported that with the arrival of Ecuadorian kiringo in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, more and more Chinese consumers will be familiar with and love this product. Ecuador expects that China's consumption of Ecuadorian kiringo will triple that of the United States in the future, making it the largest export destination for the product, so let's wait and see how vibrant GANO's Ecuadorian kiringo will be in the Chinese market.
