About 90,000 international tourists have entered Thailand since the country reopened to international tourists on November 1, and 240,000 have applied for entry permits through the Thai Foreign Ministry's online system, of which 190,000 have been approved, Prime Minister's Office spokesman Thanakong said Wednesday. During this period, the daily number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Thailand did not rebound and showed a gradual decline, indicating that the epidemic prevention and control work has reached the expected target.

In addition, Thailand's domestic tourism market is recovering. Statistics show that 900,000 people have taken part in the Thai government's subsidy program to stimulate a revival of domestic tourism in the past month, with a sharp increase in hotel bookings, travel spending and other tourism-related spending.

The spokesman said Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was satisfied with the move and the cabinet would discuss further opening up the number of destinations open to tourists from the current 17 to 45.
