The European Union will invest at least 150 billion euros in Africa over the next seven years, using public funds and mobilizing private companies, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday at the opening of the sixth EU-Africa Summit held at EU headquarters in Brussels. The investment will be mainly used to build renewable energy power generation facilities, transport infrastructure such as roads and ports, communication facilities such as undersea cables and base stations on land, and improve Africa's health and disease prevention and control capacity.

The EU-Africa Summit was co-chaired by the leaders of the Eu and THE African Union under the theme "Africa and Europe: a United Vision for 2030".
