India's National High Speed Railway Company signed a contract for the first time with a related company to build the railway On June 26, Japanese media said. The high-speed railway, which will connect Ahmedabad to Mumbai, is being pushed by the Governments of Japan and India to use Japan's Shinkansen technology. It is expected to take four years to complete and will open at least a year later than originally planned for December 2023.The completion of the railway will cut travel time from ahmedabad, a major commercial port in the west, to Mumbai, an economic hub 500 kilometers away, to just two hours, the Nikkei reported Nov. 28. The facilities providing services such as vehicle operation and road maintenance have been under construction since September 2017, and some projects have been completed.Construction of the 237-kilometer stretch of road, including viaducts, tunnels and four stations, is expected to begin in one to two months, according to the India office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The original start date was set for 2018, but it was delayed because of poor progress in coordination between the two governments on construction methods and budgets. In addition to bids for electrical systems, including signalling facilities, which have yet to be launched, there have been delays in acquiring land for projects. According to Japanese and Indian government sources, the official operation of the railway is likely to be further delayed, and the winter 2028 time point is being coordinated.Japan and India signed a memorandum of cooperation on the high-speed rail project as early as 2015, the report said. Then-prime Minister Shinzo Abe, whose "top pitch" helped win the bid, had been trying to boost infrastructure exports by selling Shinkansen technology to India. But according to day India, government officials said the two countries, Japan to fight the same bid of French companies, unreasonable price is given, and even appeared in a hot climate anomalies in India leave out the faults of air conditioning equipment such, eventually led to the project total cost from the original told India's 1.8 trillion yen soared to 2.5 trillion yen (100 yen (RMB 6.3 - this note).India, of course, is unhappy with the budget increase. Last fall, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal also spoke out against the rise in construction costs and demanded that Japan cut costs, the report said."
